When I left California May 29th, 2019 one of the major things I brought back with me was a love for film photography, supported with my Canon AE-1 Program that I bought from Seawood Photo in San Rafael.
It took almost a week to get back settled, but June 4th, 2019 my friend Vanessa and I went to DC and I brought the camera with me and took some photos that I figured would be nice to look at. But I fell in love with the element of surprise, the process, the output, the color, all of it.
Eventually, I decided to compile my photographs from that point, as I “restarted” my life from the dream that was living in the Bay Area. I would put those photos together in a book and document these little vignettes and write a lor bit and from that document TOUJOURS was born.
TOUJOURS combines the candid with the created. Many photos are taken in the moment, brief snapshots of a story. I’ve used a camera for my medium of storytelling at least since I was in eighth grade. Other images are posed, styled, and designed with intention. Then some feel like a mixture of both, sparked by a simple “turn around” or the all too familiar “say cheese”. The portraits are definitely my favorite, where in many, the eyes of the subject directly engage the viewer.
